Flexible working more valued than pay rises

October 27, 2010

Any cash-strapped employers keen to show staff some appreciation could consider introducing more flexible working arrangements over increasing salaries, new research has suggested.

Some 60% of workers around the globe believe that they do not need to be based in an office in order to be productive, according to research conducted by business analysts Cisco.

The study, which questioned 2,600 IT professionals in 13 different countries, also revealed that 60% of employees in that sector would consider taking on a role with lower wages if it afforded them the chance to work remotely.

The findings follow similar conclusions drawn from research conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers earlier this year, which found that flexible working is now more attractive to employees than higher salaries, which in the past have been highly valued.

Remote working can be accommodated in many forms, be it working from home one day a week or more flexible hours on a daily basis.

If you’re struggling to retain employees maybe it’s time to consider how flexible working can improve your office’s morale.
