A former council boss is suing her employers for sexual discrimination after claiming her redundancy pay was reduced due to her sex.
This month, ex-Sefton Council Legal Director Caroline Elwood launched legal action against her council employers.
According to the Crosby Herald, Ms Elwood took early retirement from her £90,000 a year job with an enhanced £250,000 pension when the post was restructured. But Ms Elwood believes she was entitled to a five-figure (£40,000) payment after leaving the post, which was given to male employees in her situation.
She alleged compensation was denied to her after she was informed she could not take voluntary redundancy, while six senior male employees were handed improved terms in the move.
However, Ms Elwood has come under fierce criticism from her former employers, who claim she is prioritising "greed at the expense of the taxpayer", and they are confident Ms Elwood’s calls compensation will go unheeded.
