In order to shape the country’s employment future and have a say in their way their working lives are regulated, business owners and employees alike have been encouraged by the government to improve their interaction with lawmakers. The Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance announced last week that it is welcoming dialogue with companies and individuals operating in all sectors as to how it can go about improving the country's legislative system. Through the coalition's Red Tape Challenge, a scheme that has been designed with the intention of reducing the legislative burden faced by firms, the government believes business can plan an active role in helping the economy recover and grow in the aftermath of the global economic downturn. Under the scheme, businesses can provide details on which aspects of employment law they feel could be changed for the better, as well as their views on whether or not the present rules are flexible enough. According to Mark Prisk, Business Minister and MP for Hertford and Stratford, companies can "tell us about the good, the bad and the ugly side of how the regulations you deal with are enforced".
