The Assured Shorthold Tenancy Defined An assured shorthold tenancy is a type of assured tenancy. The assured shorthold tenancy was created by legislation to enable a landlord to let his/her property with the knowledge that he/she would be able to recover possession at the end of the contractual term without having to rely upon the usual assured tenancy grounds set out in Schedule 2 of the Housing Act 1988.
