Giving to the Heart of the Community

July 3rd 2015

Spratt Endicott Solicitors has proved it’s got heart as staff begin their fundraising campaign in aid of the Banbury Lions Defibrillator Appeal.

Since announcing the campaign as its charity of the year in May, the firm has already handed over more than £450 to the appeal, which aims to raise £2,000 to install a Community Public Access Defibrillator (cPAD) in Banbury town centre.

cPADs are used to help those in cardiac arrest and will be accessible to any member of the public, 24 hours a day. Using a defibrillator can increase a person’s chance of survival to anywhere between 50 and 80 per cent.

Martin Render, co-founder and chairman of the Community Heartbeat Trust, a national charity that provides defibrillators to local communities, said while approximately 200 people every day suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, many people do not realise just how serious it is.

Statistics show that for every minute that passes, a person’s chance of survival decreases by 23 per cent, with clinical evidence suggesting that this figure may be higher in practice in rural areas.

The Community Heartbeat Trust has supplied 1,400 defibrillators across the UK and is now working with the Banbury Lions to install another one in the town.  Ian Wilson, from the Lions Club of Banbury, explained how there will soon be a PAD installed outside M&S in Banbury and with the money Spratt Endicott staff are raising they hope to have another life saving device in the town next year.

During a demonstration of the equipment at Spratt Endicott’s Banbury offices, Mr Render said: “Thank you for raising this money. People like yourselves, who care, save lives. Thanks for getting involved.”

Jane Ward, Marketing Manager at Spratt Endicott, said: “We would like to thank Martin and the Banbury Lions for giving this demonstration. It was incredibly informative and reiterated just how crucial easy access to PADs is in the local community. We are thrilled to be supporting such a worthwhile campaign and look forward to continuing with our fundraising efforts.”
