Spratt Endicott Supports Cherwell District Council with Local Housing Initiative

Spratt Endicott Solicitors are working with Cherwell District Council on the Build! project which will see an alternative source of affordable housing become available across the Cherwell district.

Build! offers people the chance to get involved in completing their new home. The homes are built up to watertight shell stage and then the purchasers come in to fit out the internal fixtures and fittings such as internal woodwork, doors, kitchens and landscaping. In return for the work they put in they can benefit from a reduced purchase price. Those involved also get a greater opportunity to create a home that is more suited to their individual needs.

Around 280 new homes will be created in Banbury and Bicester through the current Build!  project but this is just a start. Cherwell District Council has recently purchased a site that could offer 1900 self build opportunities for private purchase or affordable home ownership.  The properties in the current programme will be available to buy on a shared ownership or to rent at 80% of the open market value. There are also properties available for outright purchase of a property at shell stage.  Purchasers can benefit from advice and support with mortgages that are specifically tailored for the self finish properties.

Councillor Debbie Pickford Lead Member for Housing at Cherwell District Council said ‘The Build! project has brought empty  buildings back into use, provided fantastic housing opportunities for our residents and supported the local economy by using local contractors, All in all this is a win-win situation for everyone involved.”
